THE HISTORY OF OUR COMMUNITYHorizontal Rule

Coxsackie, Athens, and New Baltimore were formed as part of Greene County in the late 1700's to early 1800's. Coxsackie,
located in the northern corner of the county was where the
pioneers started as early as 1652 on a tract of six square miles, purchased from the Indians.

Athens, located near the center of the county, only had one settlement to speak of until 1800, which was a farm with
two houses.

New Baltimore formed from Coxsackie March 15, 1811. It is located in the northeast corner of the county and is a good farming section, famous for its apples. Milling, tanning, boat building, and ice harvesting in turn, played important roles in the industrial development of the town.

Currently, with a combined population of over 8,300 people, these three communities have developed, and keep developing into an area of work, play, and a place we call HOME!
